Birfday weekend

Well, it was quite an extravaganza. It all started when I arrived at work and my door was decorated with banners, pinatas, and ribbons, oh boy. There was cake too, with boiled icing, yay!
Then, G. and I went out for dinner which was lurvely.

On Saturday, we went to the grocery store to get some yummies for the party. We grabbed some brekkie on the go, and ate it in the car, how classy... And then, when we tried to start the car again, it was deader than dead. Battery? Ker-blammo. Nooo! Thankfully we were saved by K. who was nearby with a booster. Whew, disaster averted and we went along our merry grocery-getting way. M & C showed up in record time from Halifax. I'm wondering if they actually drove or if the car sprouted a nuclear rocket blaster. Anyway, there they were. Then, it was prep, prep, prep and the peeps showed up bearing lovely gifts and wine. There was mingling, eating, merriment and dancing. I think everyone had a nice time. I think it was the nicest birthday I've had in a long time. I still missed Jess and Erin and the rest of the chickies, but that's life when you live on a lonely little island- you can't have it all.

This morning M & C left and now I'm a bit bummed. I took the day off, but it will be a day of dishes and laundry. I am however checking out Centergy which is a strange mix of yoga-lates? Hmm. I am keeping an open mind because fitness folks keeping ranting and raving about it.

Shakin' & bakin'

We're having a major snowy Sunday here, which made it an excellent day for brunch (brie and tarragon omelettes and homemade hashbrowns, anyone?) and making bread (naturally).

The dogs also took advantage of the blizzard-like conditions to have a romp in the snow.

This is the challah I made last week. I made two loaves but this one was a bit prettier than the second. It was pretty tasty!

Bonne année, and such, and such.

It's now 2011. This means a post to reflect on the highs and lows of this past year. Might as well start with the lows, and end on a good note.

So, in no particular order of importance, some of the lows of 2010:
  • Mémère being sick/having major surgery
  • My parents getting into a serious car accident (but they're ok!)
  • Erin and Josh moving away (even though I'm happy for them)
  • Coworkers being very, very ill
  • The sad, sick, abandoned kitten we had to PTS
  • Banff, can't go there
  • Sad rescue cases we couldn't help
  • Geoff working too much
  • Feeling like you're always disappointing someone, no matter which action you choose

Ok enough of that nonsense, no sense reliving sad things. Let's have some highs!
  • Lots of fun times with Erin and Josh- parties and doggies and everything nice
  • Meeting new friends
  • Trips to Winnipeg, Quebec, and NYC
  • Meg and Colin's wedding
  • Being honest and open
  • Photoshoots with Erin
  • Paintings with Becky
  • Learning to bake bread and make new foods
  • Not being afraid to try new things (spin class)
  • Not being afraid to retry old things (yoga)
  • Adopting Kanoa
  • First BDRA fundraiser
  • Finding a great forever home for Kal (Odin)
  • Happy endings to sad rescue cases
  • Going sailing and cruising in an FRC
  • Fun with my dogs, always
  • Renos to the house/yard
  • Getting an award at work
  • Beautiful spring days spent with my bestie getting sunburns
  • Geoff ending the year as not a workaholic
  • Realizing that sometimes you need to put yourself first to keep sane (e.g. adjust your oxygen mask before helping someone with their's)
  • Realizing you can create your own happiness some of the time

Well that's quite the smile... Happy 2011!
