My pretty princess was the only one who would keep her party hat on. She looks almost dignified, if it wasn't so darn ridiculous.

The pretty prince(ss) of parties
It was Broadway's birthday! Erin and Josh came over with her and we celebrated with pizza, gee-fees, pupcakes that I made, dog toys and fun! Broadway and Sola fought like sister dogs all night and now they're tired.

"In gardens, beauty is a by-product. The main business is sex and death." (Sam Llewelyn)
Some photos of the garden, and of course Kanoa who is the grounds supervisor.
I was trying to take a picture of the little fruit blossom, and in pops a pollinator, stealing its thunder. This is good- means there could be plums on this little tree this year!
Some hens and chicks. One of the chicks flew the coop and made it halfway across the garden. I figure it wanted to be an emancipated minor.
Bora and Sola playdate!
The girls had a fabulous time together. It was their first time meeting, and though they didn't appear to totally fall in love, they had a lot of fun and were respectful of each other, almost like they saw each other as equals and didn't have to compete. It was kind of cool, and they both acted like really fun, playful, well-adjusted dogs. Sola wanted to run after things in the woods a bit, but she came back in her usual "on my own time" fashion. It is what it is.
Your beard, it's good.
Erin made me a shirt, it's wicked! Now I have Brett n' Jemaine right where I want 'em! Hah. No really, she screened this shirt herself how cool!

While I was trying to take a photo... Layla decided she wanted my leftovers.

Sola asked Bora (LeeAnne's boxer) if she'd like to go on an adventure at the Quarry today! Photos to follow!

My mom kind of rocks.
She brought me banana bread, not knowing I was sick. So that was a nice surprise. Let me use her cutting table and helped me with a Butterick pattern that might as well have been written in Russian.... And gave me two scarves she made- yes they're woven. But not only women weave. hahaha.

I'm selling some odd junk on Kijiji- does anyone want a pullout couch, a ride-on lawnmower snowblower attachment, a dishwasher, or a mini Stanley cup collection? What peculiar bits of junk.

Change is good... If it doesn't kill you first.
I decided it's time to finally paint the hallways in my house, after four years of living here (wow, already)... So, I picked a greyish, putty colour (sounds hideous, but I think will be nice) for the walls and an eggplant coloured wallpaper with the same colour as the paint but kind of shimmery. Thankfully had some help from Finishing Touch, they are pretty awesome to guide you if you're clueless about most things domestic, as I am. Unfortunately this means also new curtains (and if I loathe sewing anything, it's damn curtains). Off I went to Fabricville to find some new fabric and a not tacky pattern. I think I succeeded. The fabric is all cut out, really just the sewing portion left, and I have to pick up some black ribbon, ooh la la!
Next project will be tackling the kitchen cupboards- new hardware, painting, decoupage type of idea in the middle. This will be a bigger project than it sounds; every cupboard door will have to be removed, sanded, primed, painted. Yuck. But, I think it will really brighten things up. Geoff is taking some time off towards the end of the month to pick at this stuff.
Also started the flower garden, and as I write this realizing I sound like I'm at least retirement age... It took over three hours to weed the bed and it's not even done. There's a really aggravating pervasive weed that has a really widespread root system. Ugh! My back hurts thinking about it. But did get most of it done, and planted some poppies, sweet williams, and two other types of annuals that are escaping me. I have pansies, glads, and lillies up already.
So to add to my Martha-like day, here's a photo of my cats on a quilt. Why don't I just start toll painting and making tea biscuits?

I have the coolest bestie ever!

Look at the cool things you can do with more or less unwanted hair- you can save the planet. Erin aka Captain Planet is doing her part, one fur ball at a time. Luna, Sola, and Kanoa will make a contribution as well :)
Update: Capt. P. was also on the radio AND on CBC news at 6. Holy famous kid!
Even more update: now on CBC website too!

Nostalgie et temps non-perdu
Had a fun day today- took the day off work, had a doggie play date with Broadway and Erin, then ran around town developing photos and crying at sad animals at the SPCA with no one to love them. I have print photos only of the ones taken today, they'll be going on the wall along with some of me from last year and *hopefully* some paintings Becky will do of my doggies. Awesome!
So, until you can see the cool pro shots you get lame ones I took with my blackberry. Well dogs are cute no matter what, but I'm excited to have some cool photos and paintings done of them!
Such a fun day off, really needed it and Erin is pretty much the best thing going! What fun.
And... wait, I lied! Check out the coolest of the shots here.

The face-off
